Terry currently resides in the beautiful state of New Mexico with his family.
Terry has written numerous compositions in Jazz over the years. Terry is concentrating now on composing new original music, orchestral works, and music for film and television. Terry counts many individual artists as influences in his composing including Pat Metheny, John Barry, Danny Elfman, Snuffy Walden, and many others.
Terry's compositions have been highlighted on numerous recording projects with many renowned performers. His newest recording project with "The Libra Project" featuring Andrew Schwandt and Fred Flowerday has been released and is available here. Just email me!
Terry has spent 20 years as an educator and administrator at the college level, with positions as a Department Head, Dean of Academic Affairs, and Director of Institutional Research and Assessment.
Terry has been responsible for the musical education of hundreds of students. A majority of Terry’s students have gone on to successful and rewarding careers in music.
Terry’s 40 years as a professional musician has enabled him to bring a unique perspective to the classroom and a unique experience to his students.
Terry has written 4 method books for bass instruction, collectively entitled "The Bass: A Comprehensive Approach," which has been used and is currently being used to help to prepare bass students for a fulfilling life and future in Jazz and contemporary music styles.
Terry began his life in music at age 7 with piano lessons in his hometown of Clovis, New Mexico. He received his first electric bass on Christmas day at age 13. After that, there was no turning back...
Terry spent 10 years in Omaha, Nebraska, playing in local bands and beginning to study Jazz. Terry received a grant from the National Endowment for the Arts, which allowed him to move to New York, where he studied under renowned bassist and educator Rufus Reid. After leaving New York, Terry relocated to Los Angeles and continued his performing career in Jazz, recording, and television and motion picture work.
After relocating to Minneapolis, Minnesota in 1994, Terry began his collegiate career, achieving a BA in Music, a MA in Leadership, and a Doctoral Certificate in Institutional Research and spent 20 years as an in-demand performer and composer, studying composition with Carol Barnett. Terry is currently working on his doctorate in Educational Leadership (Higher Education) at the American College of Education in Indianapolis, Indiana.
